Malaysia prioritises investments in silver economy

Malaysia must prioritize investments in the silver economy to develop infrastructure and foster innovation in technology, including artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, to enable active and healthy aging, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He emphasized the importance of increasing the accessibility and affordability of technological devices, such as smart home technology and wearable devices, to help older Malaysians lead healthier retirement lives by tracking their health markers. Anwar also highlighted the significance of improving accessibility technologies to overcome mobility, hearing, or eyesight impairments, which could enhance the productivity of older individuals in the workplace, enabling them to contribute to the workforce for an extended period. He expressed these views at the opening ceremony of the International Social Wellbeing Conference 2024 (ISWC 2024). Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan were also in attendance. Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, stressed that Malaysia should prioritize investments in critical sectors such as healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and infrastructure conducive to active aging.
